Responsibilities

The County Treasurer of Lawrence County serves as the custodian of all county funds and is responsible for the lawful receipt, disbursement, and accounting of public money. The Treasurer manages the flow of revenue into the county treasury from various sources, including property taxes, state aid, and federal or local payments. While the Treasurer does not assess or collect taxes directly, they receive tax revenue from the County Collector and distribute it to the appropriate entities such as the county general fund, school districts, cities, and special improvement districts.

The Treasurer disburses funds only upon proper authorization—typically warrants issued by the County Judge and attested by the County Clerk. They maintain detailed records of all transactions, reconcile bank accounts, and ensure transparency in all financial dealings. The Treasurer also prepares required financial reports for the Quorum Court, auditors, and the State of Arkansas, and may invest county funds in secure, interest-bearing accounts as permitted by law.

This office plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of county operations and ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly and in full compliance with Arkansas law.
