Responsibilities

The Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for coordinating disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts within the county. The OEM serves as the central point of contact for emergency services and works to ensure the county is equipped to respond to both natural and man-made emergencies, including severe weather, floods, hazardous materials incidents, and public safety threats.

Key responsibilities of the OEM include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and implementing the county’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
  • Coordinating multi-agency response efforts during emergencies and disasters
  • Managing the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated
  • Liaising with the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
  • Supporting local first responders, volunteer organizations, and municipal emergency personnel
  • Conducting training exercises, drills, and public education campaigns
  • Assisting with disaster damage assessments and public recovery assistance
  • Facilitating emergency communications systems and weather alert coordination
  • Managing county resources and logistics during declared emergencies

The OEM works proactively to enhance community resilience by promoting preparedness across government entities, schools, healthcare providers, businesses, and the public.
