Quorum Court
The Lawrence County Quorum Court serves as the legislative body of county government in accordance with the Arkansas Constitution, Amendment 55. It is composed of elected officials known as Justices of the Peace (JPs), each representing one of the county’s nine districts.
The Quorum Court is responsible for:
- Enacting ordinances and resolutions governing county affairs
- Approving the annual county budget and appropriating funds for departments and programs
- Establishing county policies and procedures
- Levying county taxes within constitutional limits
- Reviewing and authorizing contracts and interlocal agreements
The Quorum Court works closely with the County Judge, who serves as the chief executive officer of the county and presides over meetings without voting (except to break a tie).
